Far-right activist no longer suspect in Roma attack case

A court has granted his lawyer's appeal.

A court has cancelled a notice of suspicion of committing an especially bold and cynical act of hooliganism which was issued to a coordinator of the far-right group C14, Serhiy Mazur, over the 21 April attack on a Roma camp in Kyiv's Lysa Hora neighbourhood.

Thus, the court granted his lawyer's appeal.

On 2 November, a prosecutor appealed the court ruling. The Kyiv court of appeals took the prosecutor's appeal for consideration.

One of Roma camps in Kyiv was attacked in the early hours of 21 April. The attackers burnt the tents and forced people out of the camp. C14 activists publicly owned up to the incident.

International organizations, the USA and the UN urged the Ukrainian authorities to investigate the attack.

Police had been reluctant to open a case until a video of the assault was published by the media.
