Consumer price inflation in Ukraine slowed down to 9.2% in January 2019 year-on-year in comparison with 9.8% a month earlier. Basic inflation was 8.3%, according to the State Statistics Service.

Compared with December 2018, prices increased by 1% (0.3% basic inflation).

The highest increase in prices last month was seen in local telephony (17.9% compared with December), vegetables (16.6%), postal services (14.3%), heating (11%), hot water (9.4%), railway transport (5.5%).

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) expects the 2019 inflation to slow down to 6.3% thanks to tough monetary policy and balanced fiscal policy dictated by the need to pay off debts in 2019-2020.

In 2018, consumer price inflation in Ukraine reached 9.8% (compared with 13.7% in 2017), which was the lowest figure over five years.
