Election watchdog registers total of 44 presidential candidates

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has completed registration of presidential candidates in the 31 March election. There are a total of 44 candidates, including 40 men and four women.

The CEC has rejected a total of 47 applications, including those of Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko and MP Nadiya Savchenko suspected of terrorism.

The last candidates to be registered were ex-journalist Dmytro Hnap (Power of People) and Oleksandr Solovyov (Intelligent Power).

Candidates have until 7 March to withdraw from the run, therefore the final list to be included in the ballot will be announced on 8 March.

So far, the full list of officially registered presidential candidates includes:
