Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystayko has said that the Ukraine International Airlines PS 572 is proven to have been downed by an Iranian missile, Kyiv will demand punishment for the perpetrators and compensation from Tehran.

"I don’t like answering questions that begin with 'what it' but, of course, if we can prove it, if we prove that this plane was shot down, we will certainly demand not only punishment for all those responsible but compensation too," Prystayko said at a briefing in the president's office, according to Interfax-Ukraine.

The USA and Canada said that they had intelligence that the plane was hit by a surface-to-air missile.

The Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 from Tehran to Kyiv crashed shortly after takeoff from Imam Khomeini International Airport on 8 January, killing all 176 people onboard.
