Kyiv investigators of the State Investigation Bureau (SIB) have exposed the head of one of the secretariats of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. He was detained for extortion and receiving of undue profit (Article 368 Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) from a representative of a construction business, the SIB press service has said.
According to preliminary reports, an official of the Cabinet of Ministers secretariat, with the involvement of an intermediary, demanded 2.5m hryvnyas from a representative of a business company.
"The kickback was intended for the signing of acts of acceptance of completed construction work and the recall of lawsuits against the contractor," it said.
The suspect was detained right after he was paid 2m hryvnyas.
If his guilt is proven, he faces a prison term of five to 10 years, the deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years as well as the confiscation of property.
