Ukraine hopes for Turkey’s help in securing political prisoners’ release

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine hopes for Turkey’s help in securing the release of political prisoners held in Crimea and Russia.

He said this at a briefing in the wake of the talks with visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Kyiv.

“We talked about the war in Donbas, the annexation of the Crimean peninsula, violations of human rights in Crimea, Russia’s aggressive policy in the region. In all these questions, Turkey’s consistent support, as well as Ankara’s practical steps in this direction, are of extreme importance to us. Ukraine relies on Turkey’s help in securing the release of political prisoners, citizens of Ukraine, including Crimean Tatars, who are illegally held in Crimea and in the Russian territory,” Zelenskyy said.
