Chernivtsi regional council head suspected of corruption

The head of the Chernivtsi regional council, Ivan Muntyan, is officially suspected of accepting a bribe of 180,000 dollars (Article 368 Part 4 of the Criminal Code), the press service of the National Anticorruption Bureau of Ukraine has said.

A private entrepreneur who offered the bribe was also declared a suspect under Article 369 Part 4 on offer or giving of a bribe to an official.

According to the NABU, in July 2019 Muntyan demanded 400,000 dollars from the businessman in return for assistance in the lease of the community-owned Brusnytsya spa resort.

In August-October 2019, he received 180,000 dollars from the businessman.

The NABU has been investigating the case since August 2019, its press service said.

Muntyan has headed the regional council since 2015. The council was searched by the NABU on 16 October 2019.
