Scoop of the day: Zelenskyy gets Covid-19 jab

Coronavirus

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has received the first dose of the Indian-made CoviShield vaccine during a visit to the front-line positions in Donbas together with European Council President Charles Michel.

The regulations had to be changed to allow officials to get inoculated first to make vaccination more popular.

During the first round Ukraine will receive 1,776,000 doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine under the COVAX facility, according to the UNICEF website. Ukraine will also get 117,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech which were promised to the country earlier.

Some 45,000 Ukrainians, who are not in priority groups, registered for vaccination via the Diya government e-services portal and app.

On the morning of 2 March, Ukraine reported 5,336 new Covid-19 cases and 162 fatalities.

Donbas

Journalist Serhiy Harmash, an adviser to the Ukrainian delegation to the trilateral contact group on Donbas, has said that the so-called "public advisers" from the separatist-held areas has presented their "action plan" at the recent meeting of the group. According to Harmash, the OSCE Special Representative insisted on considering this "plan". However, Harmash added, separatist representatives are not members of the trilateral contact group, therefore their participation in the meeting is in violation of the Minsk agreements.

Interior minister

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov told Dmytro Hordon's talk show that he does not see a reason imposing any sanctions on ex-President Petro Poroshenko. "If you are unhappy about Poroshenko, file your claims with a court. With defence, lawyers, a transparent trial, but Poroshenko is not an enemy of Ukraine, Poroshenko is our domestic politics," he said.

Functional zoning

The Ministry for the Development of Communities and Territories has divided Ukraine into 10 functional zones, its head Oleksiy Chernyshov has said in an interview with LB.ua. Some of the zones include the mountainous areas of the Ukrainian Carpathians, the macroregion of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

Military

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have accepted into service a long-range large-caliber magazine-fed repeating rifle Alligator, the Defence Ministry has said. All parts are made by Ukrainian arms makers.

Crime

EU-based Ukrainian pro-Russian blogger Anatoliy Shariy has been included in the Interior Ministry's database of wanted persons as a suspect in a high treason case.

Earlier in the day, some media reported that Kyiv's Pecherskyy district court has issued an arrest warrant for Shariy.

Technology

The Ukrainian parliament has now activated a sensor system to avoid impersonal voting by MPs, a project which has been stalling since 2008.
