After Russian troops shelled the Serpent (Zmiyinyy) Island with shipborne weapons and combat aviation, the infrastructure on the island was destroyed. Communication with Ukrainian border guards and army soldiers on the island has been lost, the State Border Service of Ukraine has said.
"According to the information available, the Serpent Island has been captured. Let us remind you that the enemy today repeatedly tried in vain to intimidate the Ukrainian defenders on the island with demands to surrender. Border guards and the AFU bravely held their ground," the report said.
