Chairman of the NNEGC Energoatom Petro Kotin has suggested the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Mariano Grossi to initiate creation of 30-kilometer safe zones around nuclear facilities in Ukraine.

He said that in direct proximity to the nuclear power plants of NNEGC Energoatom the Russian forces perform movement of their military vehicles, artillery, multiple rocket launchers; the projectiles and missiles explode near the NPPs. Such actions may cause grief threats on the global scale.

“Having this we request for the IAEA intervention to prevent the occupant forces to enter the 30-kilometer zone around our NPPs. We also appeal to Russia to immediately leave the Chornobyl zone and restore the control of the Ukrainian government over these nuclear facilities.” - Petro Korin stated.

Petro Kotin expressed his hope that the IAEA will not only remain deeply concerned over the situation, but will also create leverage to urge Russia and to stop war in Ukraine.

The Russian military troops have occupied Chornobyl power plant on February 24th. The Ukrainian government is unaware of the activity of the Russian army on the facility as well as on the current status of facility and its nuclear storage conditions.
