The Riga City Council has decided to suspend cooperation with the former twin cities of Riga - Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Minsk.
This was announced by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Oleksandr Mishchenko on his Facebook page.
"Considering the war in Ukraine started by Russia, on March 2, deputies of the Riga City Council decided to suspend cooperation with the municipalities of Russia and Belarus, terminating the cooperation agreements concluded between the Riga City Council and the city administrations of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Minsk, - the ambassador reported.
Mishchenko noted that the bill on the severance of relations was put to a vote by Riga Deputy Mayor Edwards Smiltens. He stressed that "the support of Ukraine by the Latvian capital, both symbolic and practical, is a clear proof of Riga's new European foreign policy. The decision to suspend cooperation with the cities of Russia and Belarus also clearly shows the position of the people of Riga - we will not cooperate with the aggressors!"
We will remind readers, the trade enterprises of Latvia urged each inhabitant and the businessman of Latvia to support the economy of Ukraine, to choose the goods made in Ukraine and at the same time not to finance the expense of the Russian aggressor.
At the end of February, Latvia sent more than 30 aid trucks to Ukraine - helmets, dry food, medical devices and medicines. A large consignment of ammunition must also be delivered.
