Russia's richest oligarch, Alexei Mordashov, who is close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, hid his 142-meter yacht Nord in Seychelles.
This was reported by Ukrainska Pravda.
Nord is one of the largest yachts in the world. It was built last year, and this is Mordashov's second yacht.
The first one - the 63-meter Lady M - was seized the day before yesterday by the Italian authorities as part of EU sanctions, which Mordashov was subjected to due to Russia's military aggression in Ukraine.
Mordashov's Bombardier Global 6000 plane took off from Seychelles to Moscow on February 23, on the eve of Russia's attack on Ukraine. And the next day he returned to Seychelles. And a week later, on March 5, the plane returned to Moscow and stayed there. In the meanwhile, Mordashov's yacht is anchored near Seychelles.
Oligarch Alexei Mordashov and his family topped Russia's Forbes list with $ 29.1 billion last year. Russian media reported that before Mordashov came under EU sanctions, he managed to transfer his stake in the gold mining enterprise Nordgold to his wife. The stake is worth about $ 1.1 billion.
The oligarch also said he had nothing to do "with the emergence of geopolitical tensions," and called Russia's military aggression a "tragedy of two fraternal peoples."
It is worth mentioning that as part of sanctions against Russia for the military invasion of Ukraine, France also took control of the yacht of Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin. And the German authorities seized the yacht of the Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov.
Earlier, Spanish media reported that Ukrainian sailor Taras Ostapchuk sank the luxury yacht of a Russian oligarch, Vice President of the military company Rostech, Aleksandr Mikheyev to avenge the bombing of a house in Kyiv. For several years, Ostapchuk serviced this yacht which is worth 7 million euros. The Ukrainian was detained but was later released by the court.
