The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, warned Western countries that if the war is not stopped now, then it would affect the rest of the world, because Russia would not stop at Ukraine. The head of state said this during the interview to ABC World News Tonight.
“Everybody thinks that Ukraine is far away from the U.S. or Canada. No, we are in the same zone of freedom. And when the boundaries of rights and freedom are violated and stepped on, you should protect us. Because we will suffer first. And then you will be next. Because the more this beast eats, the more it will want,” Zelenskyy said.
At the same time, the President reiterated the need for the United States and NATO to ensure the security of Ukraine's airspace.
“We can not allow Russia to act like that, because they are bombarding us, shelling, sending missiles, helicopters, fighter aircraft - many things,” Zelenskyy said. “We are not in controll of our sky.”
He added that he believes that US President Joe Biden could do more to stop the war. “I am sure that he can, and I would like to believe that. He is capable of that,” Zelenskyy said.
The President mentioned that the missiles are hitting civilian infrastructure, in particular, universities and children’s hospitals. If missiles are flying over civilian heads, “I think there is no other answer…We need to shoot them down. We need to save lives,” he said.
So far, the USA and NATO oppose the creation of the no-fly zone in Ukraine, saying that this step could lead to “a full-scale war in Europe”.
