U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said the United States could take "destructive" measures against Chinese companies that ignore sanctions against Russia.

She said this in an interview with The New York Times.

The media notes that US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo has issued a stern warning to Chinese companies that ignore US restrictions on exports of technological products to Russia, saying the United States will cut them from US hardware and software needed to make their products.

"The Biden administration could, in fact, close Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation or any other Chinese company that does not support US sanctions, continuing to supply chips and other advanced technologies to Russia," the Secretary said. - They have their interest in not supplying these things to Russia. That would be devastating to China's ability to make these chips. "

Why China will not save Russia's economy

The United States, the European Union, and other governments have implemented large-scale sanctions and export controls in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Export controls prohibit the sale of some high-tech goods, including semiconductors, to Russia and Belarus. US export controls apply to US companies and companies anywhere in the world that use US software or technology to produce their products, many of which are Chinese.

Following the implementation of US sanctions, the world's largest manufacturers of processors, Intel and AMD, have stopped supplying their products to Russia. In addition, Taiwan's company TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker that makes processors for AMD, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Nvidia graphics chips, has also announced that it has cut off supplies to Russia.
