According to his video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the order of award of Shevchenko National Prize.
"On the ninth of March of every year, we announce the names of the laureates of Shevchenko Prize. This Prize is our national award for preserving and cultivating Ukrainian identity and culture. While we're living under martial law and fighting for our freedom, we must keep our traditions and preserve everything Ukrainian as we're advancing to victory and peace. I've signed the order, now I'm looking forward to meeting the laureates after the victory of Ukraine," said the President.
The President's order was published on the website of the President's Office.
The 2022 Shevchenko National Prize was awarded to:
- Kateryna Gornostay (film director) for feature film Stop-Zemlya
- Grygoryy Grabovych (literary critic, U.S. citizen) for a series of articles Rethinking Pavlo Tychyna - Rethinking Ukrainian Modernism
- Tamara Duda (Tamara Gorikha Zernya) (novelist) for novel Dotsya (Daughter)
- Nikita Kadan (painter) for exhibition Stone Breaks Stone
- Mykola Rybchuk (writer) for book Nationalists' Lexicon and Other Essays
- Tiberyy Silvashi (painter) for installation Kryla (Wings)
Tamara Trunova (director), Natalya Vorozhbyt (playwright), Yuryy Larionov (artist-scenographer), Andrii Isaenko, and Valeria Khodos (actors) for play Bad Roads (Kyïv Drama and Comedy Theatre on the Left Shore of Dnipro)
Zelenskyy announced that the 2022 Shevchenko Prize fund would be 397 000 UAH (13 000 USD) per laureate.
Shevchenko National Prize Committee named the winners on the ninth of March.
Earlier, Nikita Kadan pledged his prize money to the volunteer programs.
