The International Monetary Fund has approved $ 1.4bn as emergency financial assistance to Ukraine as it fights the military invasion of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the IMF press service.
"The war in Ukraine has led to tragic deaths and suffering. Although the prospects are uncertain, the economic consequences are severe: in just 13 days, the influx of refugees exceeds 2 million people and large-scale destruction of critical infrastructure in Ukraine. This RFI (Rapid Financing Instrument, - edit.) payment which is equivalent to 50% of Ukraine's quota in the IMF, will help meet the urgent needs of the balance of costs arising from the aftermath of the war and will provide essential support in the short term, acting as a catalyst for financing from other partners, - says the message.
Earlier, the chairman of NBU, Kyrylo Shevchenko, addressed the IMF with the offer to limit the Russian Federation's access to Fund resources. Ukraine also asks the G7 countries to exclude Russia and Belarus from the IMF and World Bank organizations.
