Survivor of Mariupol maternity ward shelling gives birth to baby girl

The public broadcaster Suspilne informed that a beauty blogger Marianna Pidhurska, who had survived the shelling of a maternity hospital in Mariupol, gave birth to a healthy baby girl weighing 3,200 grams on 10 March. The baby was named Veronica, which means "victorious".

Marianna's relative Tetyana said that the birth was scheduled for 9 March. The woman was hospitalized earlier due to constant shelling in the city and was taken to the nearest hospital.

She was nine months pregnant and was due to give birth on the day the Russian occupiers bombed the maternity hospital. Marianna survived. She and the other victims were evacuated.

"She must have given birth in a bomb shelter because there is continuous shelling all over the city," said Marianna's relative.

At the same time, Russian users started attacking Marianna's Instagram page. They accused the woman of allegedly playing the "role of a pregnant woman", saying there was no airstrike.

The bombing of the children's hospital in Mariupol killed three people, including one child.

On 9 March, the Russian occupiers dropped bombs on the maternity hospital №2 in Mariupol. According to the Donetsk regional military administration head, Pavlo Kyrylenko, the enemy destroyed the buildings of the maternity hospital, сhildren and therapy departments.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that the bombing of the maternity and children's hospitals in Mariupol was a conscious and deliberate decision by the Russian army. He said that the maternity hospital was a military target and that there were allegedly military personnel there. In fact, there were women and children.
