Russia draws mercenaries from Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Russian prisoners to the war in Ukraine - the General Staff

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces published on their Facebook page the operational information on the Russian invasion as of 6 p.m. on March 12.

According to the command, the Russian aggressor was forced to change combat tactics due to an unsuccessful attempt to conduct an offensive operation.

Occupiers are looting, robbing Ukrainians, stealing products in stores and pharmacies, and committing serious crimes against civilians. All of this is because the occupational forces have severe problems with logistics - Russian command can not provide them with fuel, food, and ammunition.

"Abandoned occupation units are demoralized, morals are running low and their psychological condition isn’t good. There is an increased number of attempts to return to the territory of the Russian Federation on their own," the General Staff of the Armed Forces said.

As Russia has suffered heavy casualties and problems with staffing its reserve units, the aggressor began to recruit so-called "conscripts" from the Certain Areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions (CADLR), as well as mercenaries from Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and prisoners from correctional facilities of the Russian Federation.

“In almost all areas of advance, the occupiers are trying to gain a foothold in the previously captured frontiers but have not had much success. The enemy continues to launch missile attacks on critical infrastructure, residential districts, and airfields, cynically ignoring the rules of international humanitarian law," the General Staff said.

In the direction of Volyn, the military said there is still a threat of sabotage at military facilities and civilian infrastructure.

Defense forces continue to conduct a defense operation in the Southern, Eastern, and Northern directions, covering the state border of Ukraine and the seacoast.

Earlier the Russian occupiers destroyed an ambulance station and stole three ambulances during a civilian evacuation from Trostianets, Sumy region.

SSU intercepted the conversation of the occupiers. In Kharkiv, they received an order to shoot civilians.
