The EU's permanent representatives approved the fourth package of sanctions against Russia on Monday.

This was announced by the French presidency of the Council of the European Union on its official Twitter account.

The new package is aimed at individuals and legal entities involved in the aggression against Ukraine, as well as against a number of sectors of the Russian economy.

"These measures will take effect as soon as they are published in the Official Journal of the European Union," claim the statement published on Monday evening.

In addition, the EU ambassadors have also approved a statement to the WTO on Russia's aggression against Ukraine, which calls for the abolition of the benefits enjoyed by Russia as a member of the organization, and the termination of Belarus' application to join the WTO.

Yesterday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that the EU would decide to ban imports of steel products from Russia, ban the export of luxury goods to Russia, ban any investment in oil production and refining in Russia and expand the list of oligarchs who will fall into sanctions list.

The fourth package of sanctions also includes new restrictions against Russia's largest oil companies, Rosneft, Transneft and Gazprom Neft.
