Bosch discovers its parts are used for the Russian military and quits the Russian market

Robert Bosch GmbH, the German electro-mechanical industrial and houseware manufacturer, announced it wraps up its operations in Russia, Bloomberg informs.

The company is mentioned to make such a decision after Ukraine declared that Bosch components are used in military equipment.

The company emphasizes, that Bosch components usage for “non-civil” purposes violates its policy.

“As we have signals that Bosch products are used, contrary to local contract provisions, for the non-civil purposes, we terminated trucks components supply to Russian Federation and Russian customers”, the Bosch announcement says.

The company now expects complete termination of operations at Russian factories, particularly at its St.Petersburg houseware factory.

By information of Der Spiegel, the German Ministry of Economics and Environment has launched an investigation against Bosch, as the supply of double-purpose goods to Russia was banned by the EU as part of sanctions imposed after the Ukrainian Crimea occupation in 2014. Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba has earlier mentioned that Bosch had been supplying these components to the Russian military for years.

Last year Bosch announced that it considers opening an electric tools factory in Ukraine.

As a reminder, earlier two largest German energy companies announced they will not renew contracts to purchase Russian coal and gas.
