The United States will hand over to Ukraine some of the Soviet-made air defenses, the US secretly purchased decades ago.

This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Among the supplied weapons there is SAM "Wasp" (SA-8). Some Soviet-style weapons were stored in the Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. Sources said at least some of the air defenses came from the base, adding that C-17 military vehicles had recently arrived at the nearest airport in Huntsville, Alabama.

It is noted that the United States purchased a small number of Soviet missile defense systems so that they could be studied by US intelligence experts and further used as an assistance in the training of US troops. The Pentagon has officially declined to comment on the decision.

The Pentagon CEO visited Slovakia last week to see if the country would send S-300 out of its arsenal. Slovakia has said it will do so if the United States replaces it, but such an agreement has not yet been approved.

According to one source of information, S-300 systems, purchased in Belarus in 1994, were not among those shipped to Ukraine.

Earlier it was also reported that the United States is persuading Turkey to abandon the Russian S-400 and send them to Ukraine in exchange for lifting sanctions.
