Russian politician Anatoliy Chubais has resigned as the Russian president's special representative for sustainable development and left the country.

This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.

According to the interlocutors of the agency, 66-year-old Chubais left Russia because he allegedly refused to support the "special operation in Ukraine".

Bloomberg writes that Chubais has become the highest-ranking official to sever ties with the Kremlin since Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

Information about Chubais' resignation was confirmed by the Kremlin. A spokesman for the Russian president, Dmitriy Peskov, said that Chubais resigned of his own volition:

"And if he went – or didn't go - it is his personal business", - "Gazeta.ru" quoted Peskov.

According to Russian media, Chubais was seen in Istanbul on 22 March.
