Subordinates killed the Russian colonel, western officials confirm, European Pravda reports citing Politico

The colonel, commander of the 37th Motor Rifle Brigade, was run over with the armored vehicle and suffered severe injuries to both legs. "We believe that the brigade commander was killed by his soldiers due to large-scale losses inflicted on his brigade," one official said.

Earlier, the journalist Ruslan Tsymbaliuk reported that the soldier from the tank battalion of the 37th Motor Rifle Brigade accused the brigade’s commander, Colonel Yurii Medvedev, of the deaths of his comrades. According to Tsymbaliuk, the soldier chose a moment during combat and ran over the commander, standing nearby, injuring both his legs.

It was later reported that the commander died. It was the battalion tactical group of the motor rifle brigade, based in military unit 69647 (Buriatia). Two battalion tactical groups of more than 1,500 servicemen lost about 50% of their personnel, and many soldiers were wounded to varying degrees. At the same time, Medvedev was awarded the Order of Courage.

The western official also confirmed the Ukrainian reports that the lieutenant general, commander of the 49th General Army, was killed in action, making him the seventh Russian general to have died in combat since the invasion. The advisor of the President’s Office, Oleksiy Arestovych, earlier reported the death of the lieutenant-general Yakov Riazantsev and mentioned that he was killed on Chornobaivka airfield, where Russian forces have repeatedly suffered losses. As of March 26, Russian forces lost about 16 500 personnel, 575 tanks, and 117 aircraft.
