The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that NATO countries are conditionally divided into five camps in support of Ukraine. First of all, those who don’t mind a long war in Ukraine, because it would mean exhausting russia.
This opinion was expressed by Mr Zelenskyy in an interview with The Economist.
The second camp wants a quick end to the fighting because the russia’s market is a big one and their economies are suffering. They would like to see the russia keep some markets.
A third group "recognizes Nazism in the russia and wants Ukraine to prevail. They are joined by small liberal countries that want “the war to end quickly at any cost, because they think people come first”.
And the last group - "embarrassed countries" that want peace now and in any way possible, because they are "the offices of the russian federation in Europe."
According to Zelenskyy, Germany is trying to strike a balance between Ukraine and the russia.
"They have a long relationship with the russia, and they are looking at the situation through the prism of the economy," - he said. He added that such countries can help if there is pressure on them domestically to do so, and they can stop when they see what they have done is sufficient.
Asked why presidents like President Emmanuel Macron would not supply tanks to help Ukraine win, Mr Zelenskyy retorted: "They are afraid of Russia. And that's it."
Zelenskyy praised the United States and Great Britain in support of Ukraine.
According to Mr Zelenskyy, Ukraine needs to supply tanks, armored personnel vehicles and military aircraft. The president also stressed the need for missile defense and anti-ship weapons. "That's what our partners have. What they just have in the dust."
