Russian troops shoot volunteers near Chernihiv, one person dies

Russian troops fired on a column of volunteers near Chernihiv. It was reported by the ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova.

"Five buses came under enemy direct fire as they tried to get into the besieged city to evacuate people. Only civilian volunteers were on the bus," the ombudsman said.

According to Denisova, one person was killed and four were injured.

One of the buses managed to escape with punctured tires. The driver was injured and taken to hospital.

"The russists [translator's note - russian+fascist] do not give the slightest opportunity to take the civilian population out of the blockaded Chernihiv, in fact holding tens of thousands of people hostage, without food, water, or heat. At the same time, the residential neighborhoods come under direct fire with heavy artillery every day," Denisova noted.

According to her, such actions of the russist troops are another war crime and a crime against the humanity in accordance with Articles 7 and 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.

"I appeal to the UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations during Russia's Military Invasion of Ukraine and to the expert mission set up by OSCE member States under the Moscow Mechanism to take into account these war crimes and crimes against humanity and human rights in Ukraine" the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights summarized.

Chernihiv is in an operational encirclement by the Russian troops. As the occupiers destroyed the bridge over the Desna, the city has no connection with the Kyiv direction, so it is difficult to deliver humanitarian aid to Chernihiv or evacuate people. There is no electricity, water, and heat in the city.

On 27 March, Ivano-Frankivsk Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv with a humanitarian convoy came under fire near Chernihiv.
