It will take a lot of time for the United States to officially recognize russia's actions in the war against Ukraine as genocide, but such a decision will eventually be made.

The Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs of the USA, Victoria Nuland, stated this information in an interview with CNN. According to her, US President Joe Biden "spoke from the heart when he called what we see in Ukraine genocide." However, for the government to officially recognize the genocide, a lot of time to gather evidence is needed.

.

"But I guess what President Biden called it is what we'll probably get in the end when we can gather all this evidence. After all, what is happening there is not a coincidence; this is russia's deliberate decision to destroy Ukraine and its civilian population," - added Victoria Nuland.

When asked why the sanctions had no deterrent effect on russian President Volodymyr Putin, the Under-Secretary of State said it was because he "does not care about his people or his country, he only cares about his imperial ambitions."

For her part, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that speaking of genocide, President Biden not only expressed his personal opinion but spoke as President of the United States.

"He is the president of the United States and the leader of the free world, and he is allowed to express his views whenever he wants," - she said.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden said that russia is committing genocide in Ukraine. He told this to reporters gathered on the runway in Des Moines: "I called it genocide because it is becoming more and more clear that Putin is just trying to wipe from the face of the earth even the idea of being Ukrainian."
