Ukraine has offered the Energy Community a comprehensive approach to ridding the European Union of its dependence on russian energy resources.

This was reported in the Ministry of Energy.

As you know, Ukraine is chairing the Energy Community during this year. On April 20, at a meeting of the EU Permanent High-Level Group, the Ukrainian side initiated consideration of the state of the energy system during the war and sanctions against russia.

Among the steps Ukraine has proposed to the EU to stop relying on russia's energy resources are:

- replacement of russian hydrocarbons by supplies from other sources (increasing the use of liquefied natural gas and oil supplies by tankers);

- approval of a 9-month period of withdrawal from russian oil, which will give suppliers from other countries the opportunity to enter into contracts with European customers and increase production;

- withdrawal from russian nuclear fuel.

“The “Iranian model” of sanctions can be applied to gas transported to Europe by pipelines, under which payment for gas will be kept in special European accounts until russia stops its aggression and compensates for the losses," - the Ministry of Economy.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called oil imports from Russia a “subject of interest” for further sanctions.

It has recently become known that oil traders will reduce their purchases of russian oil from May 15. And it was reported in Germany, that the country will stop importing oil from russia by the end of the year.
