Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy underlined that according to the preliminary assessment the russian invasion caused $550 bn of losses for Ukraine.

He said that in his speech at the session of the World Bank.

The President told that shelling and bombing by the russian army destroyed or damaged 1,141 education establishments in Ukraine.

“Not each state in the world has got as many educational establishments as the russian army has destroyed in Ukraine. And that is only the number of the destroyed educational premises. You can imagine how big is the size of other destructions. Hospitals, infrastructure, enterprises, and usual residential houses are among them,” he admitted.

Russia blocked the Ukrainian ports in the Black and Azov Seas and that decreased significantly the Ukrainian export, in particular agricultural products. Because of the lack of Ukrainian food, the world market is already experiencing the start of a crisis. A recent report by the World Food Programme of the UNO mentioned that the price growth for food this year will cause hunger for approximately 47 million people in 81 countries of the world.

“Of course, we do our best to organize the export of our products. We have started a sowing campaign as much as it is possible this year. But none in the world is sure that food safety can be provided as long as the war, the war of russia in our land, continues. To stop the war now and clean up the territory from russian invaders is the only reliable way to stop the development of the food crisis,” underlined Zelenskyy.

The President added that russian troops destroy all items that can provide the economic basis for life (including railway stations, food storage, bread-baking plants, oil depot, etc.) for the purpose.

“As of today, taking into account the ruined economic ties, we need up to $7 bn of financial support monthly. For further renovation after the war, Ukraine will need hundreds of billions of dollars then. I am sure that each of you has these calculations,” said Zelenskyy.

The World Bank forecasts that the production volumes of Ukraine will decrease by 45.1% by the end of 2022. That will happen because of shutting down the enterprises, export reduction, and destruction of production premises as a result of the rf attacks.

At the end of March, it was already reported that Ukrainian losses because of Russia that started the war have already exceeded $1 trillion, including the potential losses.
