The US House of Representatives speaker, Nancy Pelosi, expressed hope that the 33bn dollars package for Ukraine proposed by President Joe Biden would be approved "as soon as possible."

Lawmakers in both houses of Congress have previously said they want to approve the funding request quickly. Still, the deadline has not been set amid disputes over the content of the law, writes Reuters.

"We hope to pass this law as soon as possible," Pelosi said at a weekly briefing.

The aid package includes $20bn for weapons, ammunition, and other military aid, $8.5bn for direct economic assistance to the Ukrainian government, and $3bn for humanitarian support.

Democrats and Republicans cannot agree on whether to combine Ukraine's funding with the allocation of billions to fight coronavirus, which Biden announced in March. Some Republicans insist the issue should be divided. Pelosi said lawmakers would have to come to terms with how to resolve both issues.

Earlier this week, Biden announced the allocation of another 33bn dollars to Ukraine due to the war against russia. The request is more than double the $13.6bn package approved by lawmakers and signed by the US president last month.

The aid package includes more than $20bn for security and military assistance, including $11.4bn to finance armaments and replenishments already provided to Ukraine, $2.6bn to support US troops and equipment deployment in the region, and $1.9bn to support cybersecurity and intelligence.

The request also contains $8.5bn in economic assistance to Ukraine for essential economic support, including purchasing food and medicine.

3bn dollars will be provided for humanitarian aid and support for Ukrainian refugees and for overcoming the consequences of the destruction of food supply chains.

Biden did not list all the defense assistance that Ukraine should receive during the speech but mentioned artillery systems.
