The Verkhovna Rada called on the UN to set up a special tribunal on the facts of the russian genocide against the Ukrainian people, - reported by the Verkhovna Rada press service.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports proposes that the UN General Assembly establish a Special Tribunal to investigate war crimes and genocide in Ukraine. The special tribunal is due to begin its work in May, including use of trials in absentia.

"The unjust, barbarian war of rushists [translator's note - russian+fascist] against the Ukrainian people has been going on for 70 days. For 70 days, the Russian military has been torturing and killing civilians, including children and women. New facts of genocide in Kyiv region are being clarified… In total, the police have already found and sent 1,235 bodies to forensic institutions to determine the cause of death,” - the Committee said.

As of May 4, 2022, according to the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, 220 children have died and 407 children have been injured since the russian occupiers invaded Ukraine.

"The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports demands an immediate investigation into war crimes and the facts of genocide by russia and bringingt to justice all those responsible, from low-ranking members and sergeants of the russian armed forces and the Rosgvardia to the top leadership of the russian federation. Given the brutality and cynicism of the crimes, as well as the need for a swift and prompt investigation, the Committee on Youth and Sports proposes that the UN General Assembly establish a Special Tribunal to investigate the war crimes and genocide in Ukraine. The tribunal must begin in May including use of trials in absentia," - emphasized in the decision of the committee.

The special tribunal must ensure the prompt investigation of all crimes and the inevitability of punishment.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Youth and Sports believes that if the first sentences to the rushist criminals are imposed this summer, civilian Ukrainians, especially women and children, will feel safer, as every russian military, every leader of any level will realize the inevitability of punishment, and it will save many lives of Ukrainians.

The Verkhovna Rada appealed to the United States to recognize russia as a sponsor of terrorism.
