The majority of the EU citizens (66%) see Ukraine as a part of the European family and are ready to support it, the data from the “Eurobarometer” sociological research conducted in EU countries in April shows.
66% of Europeans agree that “Ukraine should join the EU when it is ready,” and 71% believe that Ukraine is a part of the European family.
Also, according to the survey data, the majority of Europeans believe that since the beginning of the war, the EU has shown solidarity (79%), was united (58%), and fast (58%) in its reaction to russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
Respondents are also widely in favor of the EU support to Ukraine and its people.
In particular, nine out of ten respondents (93%) approve of providing humanitarian support to the Ukrainians affected by the war. 88% of Europeans approve of the idea of welcoming in the EU people fleeing the war. 80% approve of the financial support provided to Ukraine.
On the question of agreeing on whether Ukraine should join the EU when it's ready, Lithuania has shown the biggest support (58%), and Hungary has shown the smallest level of support (15%).
On April 18, Volodymyr Zelenskyy handed over the completed questionnaire for Ukraine to receive a candidacy status for EU membership to Matti Maasikas, the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine. Ukraine expects to receive the status of a candidate for EU membership in June at the EU leaders summit.
