The Czech Republic has found an opportunity to eliminate its dependence on russian oil imports. This was stated by Prime Minister Peter Fiala, writes "League," citing Novinky.

It is noted that the Czech Republic's dependence on russian oil can be eliminated through the TAL pipeline (Transalpine Pipeline), which serves Italy, Austria, and Germany.

"This is very important to ensure that citizens and companies have enough oil if we will impose an embargo," - the Prime Minister said on 5 May.

On 4 May, Fiala said he would like the Czech Republic to postpone the embargo on russian oil for two or three years. However, he now says the TAL pipeline could lift the Czech Republic's dependence on russia.

"Strengthening the pipeline's capacity is key to reducing dependence on russian oil," - he said.

Fiala reportedly discussed the option with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

"TAL will solve our problems. This is also the simplest option because we do not need to build additional infrastructure. It will be enough to expand capacity. But this requires the readiness of the countries involved in the TAL pipeline, i.e., Italy, Austria, and Germany or Bavaria, to increase its capacity," - he said.

Earlier, the European Union considered a ban on russian oil imports under the sixth package of sanctions. Its approval requires the consent of 27 countries. European Council President Charles Michel has said that all EU countries will support the sixth package of sanctions against russia. However, Bulgarian Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov said Bulgaria would ask the European Union to postpone the embargo on russian oil. Also, according to media reports, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban opposes the sixth package of sanctions.
