Training of Ukrainian soldiers on 155-mm self-propelled howitzers Panzerhaubitze 2000 has begun in Germany, the German Ministry of Defense announced, Spiegel reports.
The troops landed in the Rhineland-Palatinate on a Bundeswehr plane from Poland and began training at the artillery school in Idar-Oberstein.
“Usually the training lasts 40 days. However, it can also be reduced if you have the relevant prior knowledge”, - the department said.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the goal is to train “up to 18 crews”. Depending on the operational situation, the crew consists of three to five soldiers.
As stated earlier, Germany and the Netherlands want to hand over a total of twelve self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, seven of which are from Germany. This artillery can hit targets at a distance of up to 40 kilometers. Germany must also provide military training and ammunition.
