Jurmala welcomed almost a thousand Ukrainian citizens who left our country because of the war with russia.
This was reported by the Press Service of the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia.
On 12 May, Ambassador of Ukraine Oleksandr Mishchenko met with Jurmala Mayor Gatis Truksnis and his deputies Rita Sproge and Janis Ledins, as well as representatives of the Ukrainian-Latvian Friendship Society diaspora organization to discuss the issue of accepting refugees and their accommodation in Jurmala.
Mishchenko also discussed with representatives of Jurmala Municipality the issue of establishing cooperation with the Ukrainian city of Netishyn.
“A respective letter from the Mayor of Netishyn on the proposal to establish twinning relations between the cities of Jurmala and Netishyn was handed over to the Mayor of Jurmala by a member of Territorial Defense Forces Vitaliy Oleniychuk,” mentioned in the Embassy.
In April, a support center for temporarily displaced persons from Ukraine opened in Latvia.
Latvia has also donated 100,000 euro to the International Criminal Court to investigate russia's war crimes in our country.
