The special prize of the Golden Eye jury was awarded to the film "Maruipolis 2", shot by Lithuanian director Mantas Kvaderavičius, who was captured and killed by the russian occupiers in Mariupol, announced by jury member Iryna Tsilyk on Facebook.
The film tells about the life of Mariupol during the full-scale invasion of russia. Quaderavičius did not have time to finish the film, it was finished by the director's wife Anna Bilobrova. "Maruipolis 2" was added to the Cannes program after the director's death, two weeks before the festival.
The jury reasoned its decision as follows: “Our special prize goes to a film that cannot be compared to any other in the competition. Very radical, bold, artistic and existential statement "Mariupol 2". Director Mantas Quaderavičius is one of thousands of civilians killed by the russian military since the start of putin's full-scale invasion.
