Clergy of two Ukrainian Orthodox churches meets in Kyiv's St Sophia

A historic meeting of clergy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held on the day of Blessed Metropolitan Volodymyr's commemoration on the territory of Kyiv's St Sophia Cathedral, Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko has said on Telegram.

"Today, when the war poses new challenges to us, everything unnecessary is left behind. Overcoming division, serving the people of Ukraine and building our common home are our common goals. I believe that this meeting is the beginning of a new, wise, strong path of our Churches for the free and peaceful future of Ukraine," Tkachenko said.

He also noted that the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience will support this process in every way possible.

Details of the meeting were not reported.

On 27 May, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate convened a council in Kyie. Afterwards, it issued a statement on its complete independence from Moscow, in particular by radically changing its own charter.
