European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will travel to Kyiv on Wednesday for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

She said this in her annual "On the State of the EU" address to the European Parliament, Yevropeyska Pravda reported.

Von der Leyen listed steps and plans for further rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU.

"In March we successfully connected Ukraine to our electricity grid. This was planned for 2024, and we did it in just two weeks, and today Ukraine is exporting electricity to the EU," she said.

Sh stressed that she wanted to significantly expand this mutually beneficial trade.

"We have already abolished import duties on Ukrainian exports. We will add Ukraine to our network of free European roaming, it's really time to do that. Our 'solidarity lines' have been a great success. And based on all this, the Commission will work with Ukraine to go further and ensure Ukraine's seamless access to the EU single market. Our single market is one of our biggest success stories, and it is time to make it a success story for our Ukrainian friends. That is why I am going to Kyiv today to discuss all this with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and to show him that the single market has potential for Ukraine's future as well," von der Leyen said.

She also expressed confidence that Vladimir Putin would lose his war and that Ukraine and Europe would win it.

Furthermore, the European Commission head promised that the EU would continue supporting Ukraine and would strengthen sanctions against Russia.
