The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has responded to Russia's accusations that Ukraine carried out terrorist attacks in Moldova's breakaway Dniester region.

The Foreign Ministry's spokesman Oleh Nikolenko published a statement to this effect on Facebook.

Earlier, the director of the second CIS department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexey Polishchuk suggested that "in April-June, a series of terrorist attacks was committed in the Dniester region, the traces of which, as they say in Tiraspol, lead to Ukraine".

He also accused the Ukrainian authorities of trying to provoke Moldova to "forceful actions".

"Polishchuk's statement, as they say in Kyiv, is not from a great mind and he will not succeed in passing the buck. The only force that commits terrorist acts, conducts aggressive military actions, tries to undermine the internal political situation in the countries of our region is Russia," Nikolenko said.

He added that Ukraine "has always stood and will stand for peace and prosperity in the region and will respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova".

Recently, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that Ukraine's victory in a full-scale war unleashed by Russia could create preconditions for the settlement of the Dniester conflict.

Also, Moldova may deprive of citizenship those residents of the state who fight within Russia's ranks against Ukraine after Putin's announcement of mobilisation because they have a Russian passport in addition to the Moldovan one.
