Russia has been planning missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital and infrastructure since early October, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence said.
According to Ukraine's military intelligence, Russian occupational troops received instructions from the Kremlin to prepare massive missile strikes on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure on 2 and 3 October.
"Military units of strategic and long-range aviation received orders to prepare for massive missile attacks. The targets were critical civilian infrastructure facilities and central areas of densely populated Ukrainian cities," the Intelligence Directorate reported.
It is noted that on 8 October, seven strategic bombers Tu-160 were relocated to the airfield "Olenya" from the airfield "Enhels" and equipped with cruise missiles X-101. Six cruise missile carriers with 40 Kalibr missiles were deployed to the outer raid of Sevastopol.
"The main goal of the terrorist state was destroying the TPPs, creating panic among Ukrainians, and intimidating the European public," the Intelligence Service noted.
