High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell commented on the threats of Russian President Vladimir Putin to use nuclear weapons.
During a speech at the European Diplomatic Academy on 13 October, the diplomat recalled Putin's words about his readiness "to use all means at Russia's disposal," Radio Liberty reports.
Borrell emphasized that if Russia uses nuclear weapons against Ukraine, it will receive a powerful non-nuclear response from the West, which will destroy the Russian army.
"There are nuclear threats and Putin says he is not bluffing. Well, he can't afford to bluff. And it should be clear that people who support Ukraine, the European Union, its member states, the United States, and NATO are not bluffing either. And any nuclear attack on Ukraine will create an answer, not a nuclear answer, but such a powerful answer from the military side that the Russian army would be annihilated, and Putin shouldn’t bluff," Borrell said.
He expressed the belief that the EU should be ready to continue supporting Ukraine while seeking a diplomatic solution "when possible".
