The Holy Dormition Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (Cave Monastery) was registered as a monastery on 1 December and became part of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the deputy head of the department for external church relations of the OCU, Yevstratiy (Zorya), has said on Facebook.
"On 1 December, 2022, the Charter of the Holy Dormition Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (Monastery) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) was registered. Information about this legal entity as part of the Local Church was entered in the Unified State Register (45081205) on 2 December," Zorya said.
According to him, the canonical and spiritual leader of the Lavra is Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine. According to the relevant decision of the Synod of the OCU, His Beatitude will head the monastery as a legal entity.
In June, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine asked Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to transfer one of the churches on the territory of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra to the OCU for worship.
Prior to this, the Synod of the OCU decided to establish a monastery Holy Dormition Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.
