Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has submitted a motion to the Ukrainian parliament to appoint Ihor Klymenko as interior minister, the representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in parliament, Taras Melnychuk, has said on Telegram.

"The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has registered a motion by Prime Minister of Ukraine Shmyhal to appoint Ihor Volodymyrovych Klymenko as interior minister," Melnychuk said.

On 18 January 2023, a helicopter of the State Emergency Service crashed in Brovary, Kyiv Region, near a high-rise building, hitting a kindergarten building. The helicopter was carrying Interior Minister Denys Monastyrskyy, First Deputy Minister Yevhen Yenin, and State Secretary Yuriy Lubkovych. They were killed. The government appointed National Police chief Ihor Klymenko as acting interior minister.

On 6 February, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted a motion to parliament to appoint Vasyl Malyuk as chief of the Security Service of Ukraine.
