The European Union has extended sanctions against Russia for one year for the illegal recognition, occupation or annexation of Ukrainian territories.

The decision was published in the EU's official journal.

“On the basis of a review of Decision (CFSP) 2022/266, and in view of the Russian Federation’s continuing illegal actions against Ukraine, the restrictive measures should be renewed until 24 February 2024,” the document states.

The Union remains unwavering in its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The US and G7 are preparing a major package of sanctions against Russia by 24 February. These sanctions will expand and deepen previously imposed restrictions in certain categories.
