Kyiv city councillors adopted a decision that provides for the restriction of any religious events outside religious buildings in the capital to religious organizations whose leadership is located in the Russian Federation. The same applies to religious organizations that have canonical and prayerful ties with religious organizations of Russia, the press service of the Kyiv city council has said.
"The actions of some representatives of these religious organizations bear signs of criminal offences, which since the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine have caused outrage and a wide negative public response. In particular, the activities of the UOC-MP [Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate] create prerequisites for hostility and intolerance towards other faiths and denominations, promote false information, promote the ideas of the 'Russian world' and do not recognize the unequivocal fact of the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine," said Kyiv councillor Vadym Vasylchuk.
Also, the relevant departments of the Kyiv city state administration were instructed to conduct an inventory of land plots and municipal property leased or used by religious organizations.
The Kyiv city council sent an appeal to the Ukrainian parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers calling for the immediate adoption of legislation aimed at banning the activities of religious organizations whose governing centres are located in a state that has committed military aggression against Ukraine.
