The experience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine allows them to rebuild the defence and continue putting up resistance in Bakhmut, Col Serhiy Cherevatyy, spokesman for the Eastern Group of Forces, has said on the air of the news telethon.
"Today Bakhmut is the epicentre of the war. In the area of the town alone, the enemy made 21 attacks and nine engagements took place over the last day. In total, 131 enemy attacks with MLRS and artillery were recorded in the area of Vasyukivka, Dubovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Bakhmut and Ivanivske, and 38 engagements took place. Some 155 occupiers were killed, 239 were wounded and three were captured," Cherevatyy said.
According to him, the situation around Bakhmut is currently difficult but under control.
"This city is a priority target for the enemy, but our command and personnel are doing everything to defend this settlement and inflict maximum losses on the enemy," he noted.
In particular, he commented on the reports of two important bridges being blown up near Bakhmut.
"This is a war and in such a barrage of fire critical infrastructure facilities also get destroyed. However, the experience of more than a year of war on a large scale and a total of nine years of war against the occupier allows us to rebuild our defence and continue putting up resistance despite the fact that it damages the infrastructure," he explained.
According to British intelligence, two important bridges have been destroyed in Bakhmut, Donetsk Region, leaving the Ukrainian military vulnerable to Russian attacks from three sides.
