The Assault Guard brigades will undergo training and coordination for two to four months as part of the National Guard of Ukraine, its spokesman Ruslan Muzychka has said, as quoted by Radio Liberty.

According to him, only then will the units be involved in combat operations.

"We are focusing on recruiting motivated people and their quality training, on engaging instructors and commanders with combat experience. When the full stage of training and combat coordination at the company and battalion level is completed, we can talk about involving them in performing tasks on the battlefield. This will depend on the military and political leadership's plan to use these assault brigades – in which direction and to what extent. At the moment, we are talking about their full manning and quality training, which will last 2-4 months," he said.

Muzychka recalled that eight such brigades are being formed under the Interior Ministry, six of them are part of the National Guard. All of them are being formed on the basis of existing military units.

The Interior Ministry is recruiting volunteers into assault brigades that are currently being formed. These units are aimed at strengthening the Defence Forces and liberating the occupied territories of Ukraine.

The creation of volunteer brigades is intended primarily to form reserves and provide the possibility of rotation of military personnel.

So far, 23,000 applications have been submitted.
