On the night of 8 March, the National Guard of Ukraine destroyed an Iranian-made enemy drone fired by Russian troops.
A photo of the downed drone was published on the Telegram of the Operational Command North.
"At night, servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine, part of the Sivershchyna Defence Forces, destroyed an enemy moped," it said.
On Telegram, the National Guard provided more details about the successful shooting down.
"Servicemen spotted the enemy UAV when it was moving at an altitude of about 80 metres. A characteristic sound was heard. The guardsmen used their regular AK-74s and shot down the drone. The place of its crash was found, investigative actions are underway," it said.
Russia uses the name Geranium-2 to refer to Iranian Shahed-136 kamikaze drones. They can cover 1,000 km and carry up to 45 kg of high-explosive ordnance. As of 6 February 2023, Ukrainian defenders have destroyed more than 600 such UAVs.
