The increase in army spending is due to the growing number of military personnel. Therefore, the budget amendments do not provide for the return of increased salaries to the military, Roksolana Pidlasa, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee, said in a commentary to LB.

"The need to increase spending on the activities of all types and branches of the armed forces is dictated by the increase in the number of servicemen. For example, it is planned to form 8 new brigades within the Offensive Guard project," she stressed.

She also said that the amendments to the budget adopted today are related to "a change in the forecast - active hostilities until the end of 2023".

At its meeting on 21 March, the Parliament adopted the Law on Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2023" on the provision of expenditures for the security and defence sector. The law provides for an increase in state budget expenditures by UAH 537.2 billion.
