Two Russian missiles hit a residential high-rise and a warehouse building in Uman, Cherkasy Region in the early hours of 28 April. As of 14:47, the number of victims increased from 16 to 17, the Interior Ministry said.
Nine people were hospitalised.
"An operational headquarters and tents have been deployed at the scene of the tragedy, where our citizens from neighbouring houses and the house that suffered the most can wait until the local authorities provide them with temporary shelter," Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said.
According to preliminary data, three of the dead are children.
Earlier, Klymenko noted that the strike had completely destroyed the entire section of the building. Seven people were rescued from the rubble, nine of them were hospitalised.
"Three (victims - ed.) were taken out from under the rubble. Another person died in hospital. There are 17 victims. They are receiving medical care. Three children have been rescued," Klymenko said at 8:30 a.m.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that at least 10 high-rise buildings were damaged in the Russian attack on Uman.
"In one of them, the entire section was destroyed. People are still trapped under the rubble," he said.
