MPs have failed to pass draft law No. 9107-1 on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine to improve the procedure for removing a bank from the market under martial law.

The adoption of this document would allow the nationalisation of banks owned by sanctioned individuals. One of them could be Alfa Bank owned by Russian oligarch Mikhail Fridman.

The draft law secured 212 votes out of the 226 minimum required, and has now been sent for a second reading, MP Pavlo Frolov said.

The Servant of the People party accounted for 162 votes, European Solidarity - one, Fatherland - 10, Voice - 12, Restoration of Ukraine (formerly OPFL) - seven, For the Future - five, and Trust - 11. The branch of the former OPFL, Platform for Life and Peace, did not cast a single vote.

Earlier, journalists of the Schemes programme found out that Russian oligarch Mikhail Fridman's companies cooperate with the Russian military and security forces fighting against Ukraine, provide the occupiers with military uniforms, food, and organise rallies in their support.

Fridman's Ukrainian assets in Alfa Bank, worth UAH 12 billion, have been seized, as have his assets in Morshynska.
